6 Things SEO Has Secretly Made You Better At

in Business

We use SEO tools & techniques to help our websites rank better on Google. Little did we know that doing this has made us better at doing a few other useful things.

1. Writing

You may have heard people say that if you start with the right words the rest of the sentence will come together as if by magic. Right words you say? Right keywords perhaps? Yes, indeed.

Since you can't master SEO without getting pretty nifty at choosing strong keywords, you can't help but give yourself a head start to writing a better sentence while you're at it.

If all goes to plan, you'll probably start taking a great interest in the competition.

2. Spying on the Enemy

Recently, while innocently browsing a website, we discovered a hidden trove of keywords tucked away in an otherwise orderly homepage. There were about 100 keywords here busy at work bumping up the company's search engine ranking. The worst part is it worked!

Needless to say our eyes would never have picked out this hidden goldmine of keywords if it weren't for our expert spying skills. If you're looking for the human equivalent of a hawk, an SEO ninja will do you nicely.

3. Fixing the Internet

People are sometimes surprised when they hear about the technical tasks that someone who specialises in SEO does in their day. It's true that you can improve performance of your website a lot without flipping over to the screen with all the code on it.

Still, links break, algorithms get updated, new challengers step into the ring and it's all a bit more than great written material can stand up to. Then there's the cold hard truth that no one is going to spend long on your website if it isn't running fast.

Suddenly, you've got yourself an A+ in fixing the internet all thanks to the mysterious adventure of SEO. Who knows what tomorrow has in store?

4. Making New Friends

The internet was destined to be a social place. For link building we have to reach out and form new connections with bloggers, influencers, journalists and media outlets so they can share our content and ideally link back to us.

If you're starting out with this kind of process yourself, you might find it takes some persistence. In the beginning it is certainly about persistence, but in the end it's about making friends. No complaints here.

5. Going After the News

Gimme, gimme, gimme some updates. That's what you'll be crying if you orient your professional life towards SEO. A website needs creative juice. It's like a baby animal on a diet of events, gossip and blogs.

When it's your job to put together the daily feed, you shall inadvertently display the fastidious work ethic of a star news reporter. We should know. Our former (amazing) Head of Communication is a journalist now!

6. Committing to a Good Thing

Did you know that the best domains are not the newest domains? That's right, your website becomes a more useful place for Google to send the world to as time passes by.

The best thing for it is to put your website up to something right from the very beginning. Not lots of things. Just one or two good things that people are interested in now and will continue to be in the future.

SEO on your mind? Our team can sort you out almost as quickly as you can say 'Mo Works'.
